Detox is a familiar topic amongst those who are concerned about optimal health and body function. And while it is discussed frequently with regard to digestive issues, detoxing pays huge dividends in repair and relief to those whose muscles and joints suffer from chronic conditions or fatigue from overuse (that’s us, athletes and fitness fiends!!). Here is what I do for my daily—yes, I do this EVERY day—dose of detox!
1-2 Tbsp Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
-the benefits of this potion are many, both claimed and proven. Do a bit of research and you’ll see that Raw Cider Vinegar is anti-microbial, lowers blood sugar, contributes to a healthy heart, can improve skin and whiten teeth, AND can alleviate muscle pain and cramping.
1-2 Tbsp pure organic lemon juice
-lemon juice also bears a long list of medicinal and health benefits, a few of my favorites being its alkalinity (effectively assists in adjusting pH levels), its ability to lower blood sugar, and it’s diuretic cleansing effect. Reducing toxins in our bodies contributes to our body’s vitality and therefore its capacity for healing and restoring itself (like, say, after those extra intense workouts…)
1/4 cup pure organic cranberry juice
-Urinary Tract Support, Respirstory support, disease prevention, you name it– cranberry packs a powerful punch, especially when it comes to the preventative.
1 Serv raw wheatgrass or super greens of choice.
-an extra serving of greens, whether it be wheatgrass or others is a great way to consume essential phytonutrients and minerals that our diets are otherwise lacking. Nutrient-dense foods, especially greens, deliver our bodies the necessary fuel to function optimally and WELL. (and that includes healing and recovery). What I like about wheatgrass is that it is extra high in chlorophyll, making it effective for neutralizing toxins.
Sweetener: 1-2Tbsp Raw Honey is a great option due to its nutritional, diuretic, and cleansing benefits, however if you are in a calorie crunch, opt for stevia as an alternative. Trust me, you will want to sweeten this cocktail up;-)
Optional: I sometimes add cinnamon for the extra punch, as well as its thermogenic and cleansing properties.
**mix all ingredients together in a shaker bottle and add as much water as you like to adjust potency. Then it’s bottoms up, down the hatch, and on your way to a cleaner day!!**
