My SHAKEN SECRET… Passion Tea & Aloe Lemonade

October 23, 2013

Digestive discomfort?  Meet my dear friend, Aloe Vera…

Improving digestion may be one of the most critical foundations for charting a course toward exceptional health.  Regardless of what sort of dietary regimen I am keeping at any given time, I remain steadfastly conscious of the digestive benefits and drawbacks of the foods I am consuming.  This can become even more crucial for anyone who maintains a diet that is high in protein, which can sometimes complicate the digestive process. (That’s you, fellow body-builders!)

Though it isn’t the most pleasant straight-shot, Aloe Vera Juice is one of my most beloved supplements for this very reason.  Besides its host of health benefits such as high vitamin/mineral and amino-acid content, as well as its detoxifying and immune-boosting properties, aloe vera juice is a fantastic natural digestive aid.  With only 4 calories per serving, adding a dose to your daily regimen should hardly be problematic.  I’ve created a recipe for a refreshing tea that I love (with or without the aloe boost), and it’s a great guilt-free go-to for the serious calorie watchers.

note: as with ANY dietary supplement, please do your research and seek the appropriate advice as to what is wise for you and your body before trying anything new.

Ingredients:
1-2 bags Tazo Passion Tea, 2oz Aloe Vera Juice, 2-3oz Organic Lemon Juice (pure and not processed), 2Tbsp Stevia Powder, shaker bottle full of ice, *fresh mint (optional)

Method:  Steep Passion Tea in 4oz of hot water til dark and rich.  Add Lemon Juice, Aloe Vera Juice, and Stevia.  (*if you’re the mojito-loving type, you might enjoy adding some fresh chopped mint leaves for a flavorful twist)  Fill a standard shaker bottle full of ice cubes, and pour mixture over the top.  Shake it up well and enjoy a refreshing, anytime beverage.  Caution:  you may find yourself going back for seconds.  or thirds.  In the event of such, repeat steps above again.  and again.
